New Collection - LP Suk, Pim Wat Hua Haad

Sharing another amulets from the top ten monk of past era made in 2440-2460, LP Suk. For biography of LP suk, please refer to another post of mine. This is one of the masters most famous for his wicha and his ability to transform the size of any objects.

What I shared here is a somdej made by LP Suk and released under a temple called Wat Hua Haad. Or sometime call Wat Phikul Ngam, which was located opposite Wat Makham Tao, on the other side of the river. Because of its proximity with Wat Makhamtao, many of this amulet was also released under Wat Makham Tao for donation. That's the reason collector treat this as the same as Wat Makham Tao, but called this Phim Wat Hua haad.

There are several types of amulets under Phim Wat Hua Haad. The main popular one is divided into 3 categories 1. Khan Hark Sok (Broken elbow)  2. Khan Khlom (round Arms)  3. Lotus seed print. All three are very popular in the market. It features lotus base seat, with the crown on the head and the radius on both sides. Most of the amulets for this phim is made of lead mixed with murcury. The skin is grayish-black, the meat is in silvery gray. What I have shared here is phim khan hark sok.

For this piece, it is very easy to authenticate even though this is not in top condition with all features clearly seen. 

1.  The sign of aging. The skin has white, dry, pale mercury and yellowish white stain and rust like an ancient amulets. 

2. The form conforms to the standard phim made by LP Suk

3. The jarn behind. LP Suk jarned every pieces of his amulets with his full meditation power. His jarn is unique and comes in various forms usually. I have seen 4-5 types so far. There could be more. But the style of the jarn is quite consistent.

4th piece of LP Pu Somdej - 2nd Placing

 I have a lot of fate with LP Poo phim Taan Khu. It is not the most popular or most expensive phim. The most popular and expensive is phim Sae Yit. But I just keep coming across in my life. In the past I have owned Phim Taan Khu khen Klom and Khen Keap.

There are 4 pim of Taan Koo pattern (i.e. Khen Keap, Khen Kwang, Khen Hak Sork, Khen Klom). Most popular and expensive out of these 4 is pim Taan Koo Khen keap (narrow arm). However, it also depends on condition of amulet a lot, how it looks like, aging of the amulet.

The one shown here is Pim Taan koo khen Hak Sork. It looks very old with all the right features of LP Poo somdej. It is so easy to see. And I fell in love with it the moment I saw it. Many friends that saw it thought this is few hundreds years old. It is not. About 100 + years old.

Biography:
LP Pu is one of the only 2 disciples of Somdej Puttajarn Toh. Real and recorded in book of Wat Rakhang. Others like Ajarn Pa, LP Nak, LP Hin are all not disciples of Somdej Toh and has not learn from Somdej Toh before. He was the chief abbot of Wat Inn or Wat Bang kum prom during. Years ago, they were the same. 

The other one is Somdej Pilant who took over Somdej Putarjarn Toh as abbot of Wat Rakhang after Somdej Toh passed away. Both are still very much affordable as compared to Somdej made by Putarjarn Toh, Wat Rakhang.

In terms of material, huge amount of Somdej Toh powder were mixed to made this somdej. Hence, the material looks very much alike. Furthermore, this somdej is already close to 100 years ago. Thus, the texture, dryness etc looks alike. On the other hand, they are direct disciple of Somdej Toh. 

Thus, the closest replacement of Somdej Toh amulet are undeniably those phra made by either LP Pu or Pilant.

LP Pu was born in 2372 and passed away in 2476. He was 104 years old and had been a monk for 84 years. A very well respected monk during the olden days as he was from royal family of Thai Prime Minister equivalent back then.

Notes taken purely for sharing purpose. Although I agree with most of the points. But authenticating a somdej is not as simple as that. Also different mold/pim has slightly different characteristic. You really have to see and touch many many real pieces before you got a hang of it. Looking at all the marks, signs are just 1 aspect of it. You still have to look at the materials, aging factors etc. It is really an art. :) After you own one piece, you will want another piece. Price is high, but is all worth it. Don't believe me, ask those that own a real piece.

In summary:

Stories behind the name of the temple

-        Ket comes from the nickname of the temple master

-        After that the name was changed to Chai Yo

-        Then combined to Ket Chai Yo

King Rama the 5^th era renamed the temple with the full name.

Som Dej Wat Ket Chai Yo: How to see whether it is authentic:

1.     The right corner of the frame, it has to make a sharp 90 degree angle, but the left corner does not.

2.     A slight depression area at the corner

3.     Looking sideway, not all the  surface is flat or on the same level

4.     The ears are higher than the face. The shapes of the ears at the two sides are not the same, the right is straighter while the left is curvier

5.     The face has to be round like a ball

6.     The shoulders are very pointy- called Intanu. The right shoulder is slightly higher than the left shoulder.

7.     The arm shapes how it bends, the right arm goes smoothly- only 3 break points. The fake ones are smooth without any break points

8.     The breast looks almost like an elephant’s head/ a teeth

9.     The base lines:

a.     Second base looks like a boat

b.     5^th & 6^th base, the line is not flat throughout like the fake ones. Deeper at the side and gentler in the middles.

10.  Sloping from high to low- deepest in the middle area

11.  Below the frame, there is a thin outline

12.  At the arch frame, not flat throughout, more depression in the middle

13.  Looking sideway, the frame surface are not flat, tapers down at the edge

14.  Made from a very thin mold. As such, the surface does not have very deep pressed lines.

Phra Somdej Nur Phong Yant Vilas - LP Daeng (Wat Khao Ban Dai-it) - Yellow

Sharing a good piece of somdej very popular for danger/accident avoidance.

This was made by LP Daeng (widely known as the bullet-proof monk). His 2502 coin is highly priced and popular among collectors including Hong kong movie stars. Some people said that both Jacky Chan and Andy Lau were seen wearing this coin whenever performing special stunt. Can't verify that since i don't know them personally :).

For somdej, i would say this is good for both wearing and for just collection. The material used for the making is already worth every penny of it and much more. Back then, officer Phra Song Jerm Porm offered to LP Daeng to make this batch. He spent 20 years collect all the materials and mixed them. The ceremony was conducted in 250 temples and attended by over 5000 monks from 2489 - 2509 B.C. The process of pressing the mixed materials into molds was completed around 2511. LP Daeng then conducted the ceremony for another 3 years (2511-2513 B.C.)

7. The great 5 holy powder of itijay powder, maharaj powder, budhakhom powder, Padhamong powder, Tri-Nisinghae powder.

8. Bronze dust of casting Buddha from many important temples: Wat Palelai, Wat Bovorn, Wat Makutkasart, Wat Bodhi, Wat Phra Singh etc

9. Holy Soil from 9 good name areas: Chai nat, Chai badal, Phichai, Denchai, Mahachai, Chaiya, Chaiyaphum, Hariphuchai, Nakhonchaisri (Chai : Victory)

10. Holy water and holy candle wax from 109 temples

So, with so much "Ho-liao" in it, what's more to ask? Amazingly, the price of this somdej is still very affordable after so many years. 

What shared below is normal phim, yellow color. Deep Yant, clear feature. Standard material. Easy to see. No cert though. Submitted to competition and accepted before. But condition not good enough to win in competition. But good enough for wearing. Got to be careful though. Lots of fake in the market.

2460 Somdej LP Parn (Wat Kusalord)

Pretty rare to find for such good condition piece. Wat kusalord Hanuman. Commonly seen are pieces that does not have this kind of marble like texture. This is natural evolution of amulets materials after years of keeping/wearing. 

Wat kusalord batch was made by lp parn in 2460. Chanted by him and disciple n mixed with the wicha powder usually put on top in small quantity. But for those pieces that happened to mixed with a lot of wicha powder, the material is usually harder , greyish green and has different texture than other Wat kusalord. That separates the price point. Usual Wat Kusalord is only few thousand THB but this type of material can go up to 25000 thb. Quite expensive but considering this history and also origin of the amulet, it is much cheaper than a real Mc-Coy Wat ban num kho lp parn.

Wat kusalord is known to many now as a replacement of LP Parn Somdej. I have written something about it some time ago on my Wat Kusalord purcupine. Until now, i have not seen another porcupine. :(  

What i have shared here is hanuman version. It's is especially for people that want power. Manager that wants authority. Someone that wants more energy and fighting spirit. It is very popular version though not as rare as porcupine.

As for LP Parn, i will not say much as this has been introduced before. One of my most respected monks who has helped me in many occasions. Until now, i am still chanting his Rich katha and felt great about it. Lp parn somdej is well known in the world n cost up to 500000 thb for top pim n condition. So for ppl that just want to experience lp parn amulet, this is a good choice.

Sharing some marking and pim recognition for Somdej Wat Ket Jet Chan kheng morng Lek.

This is a standard piece and entry level pim for Wat Ket. One level above Pim Lay Trong.

Somdej Wat Ket Chaiyoh 7 Chan Kheng Morng (4x Champion)

Sharing another piece of wat ket chaiyoh somdej made by Somdej Toh of Wat Rakhang.  Similar material as Wat Rakhang n BKP somdej. 

Wat Ket Chaiyoh has many pims and some not even in competition category. The top three pims are 7 chan niyom, 6 chan Ork Tan and 6 chan Ork Rong. And within these top three, there are different variations. Eg. 6 chan Ork Rong, there are 15 different variation one has to aware when collected this pim.

Other standard pim accepted in all Samakorm competition category are 7 chan Kheng Morng, 7 chan Lay Trong, 7 chan hu pra bah.

Price range of Somdej Wat key chaiyoh from 300,000 THB to 3 million THB. Still it is the cheapest entry level somdej made by Somdej Toh one can find as compared to WRK or BKP which cost anywhere between 5 million to 50 million THB for a non repaired piece.

This piece shared is 7 chan change morng, pim lek. Even though it is called pim lek, but it is not small. It is a standard size somdej and same size as pim yai. The name only differentiate the pim variation. There are slight difference if you compare side by side. My previous piece of somdej wat ket chaiyoh was a pim yai.

4 champions cert n 1 samakorm authentification cert under benjapakee category. More competition to come.....:) And with such good condition, i am quite sure it will be champion in most of the competition. Why?

1. It is already difficult to find a piece of 7 chan kheng morng. 

2. It is so difficult to find a piece without repair

3. In most competition, after removing the fake pieces, only left 4-5 pieces to compete among each other. and out of the 4-5, 2-3 will be repaired. A repaired piece for benjapakee phra, can get a 4th placing.

4. This piece with complete figure and frame. It is extremely hard to find a somdej wat ket in this condition.

LP Phrom of Wat Chong Kae

 Recently get to know more about LP Phrom of Wat Chong kae and started to learn more and more. i don't understand why his amulet is so expensive until recently i met with a few collectors from Thailand and all with a lot of good testimonials to share on his amulets. On how a fisherman become millionaire and how someone who caught with an accident but escaped with no damage to his body.

These are the reasons why his amulets are growing in popularity and prices over the years:
- Very effective. proven with lots of testimonials
- A highly powerful monk that focus on meditation and psychic power.
- All amulets are produced in small quantity and chanted by him with special incantation method.

Biography:
LP Phrom was born in April 20, 2427 in Ayuthya. He was ordained since 2447 and set out for pilgrimage to various forest areas at Myanmar and Cambodia for the purpose of attaining peacefulness through meditation for many years. LP Phrom has once said "There are many monks who set out on pilgrimage and died from attack of wild animals or that of forest devils because they lacked high level psychic power for self protection. And during his pilgrimage, he chanted "itipiso" verse of 8 directions to the extend of creating an image of powerful glass wall which protected him from harmful attack of all wild animals and devils.

The incantation of LP Phrom amulets are also different from other monks. He will hold the amulets with both hands and direct his strong psychic power towards the amulets with open eyes. And he used to say that whoever possesses psychic power can detect aurora emit from his buddha amulets.

Many years after master passed on, miracles happened. His body remained un-decomposed. In fact, his hair, nail and beard grew longer and longer till today. Disciples got to cut and tidy up his body every few months. And his body was kept in a glass coffin at Wat Chong Kae for displayed and admiration of the public.

There are 4 popular classes of LP Phrom's amulets:
i. 2512 bell code rooplor; only 400 made. and LP Phrom performed incantation for the longest period of 3 months. 4th ranking of top 5 popular holding amulets in Thailand. Very expensive.

ii. This batch roop with LP Phrom finger pointing upwards, brass material. 2507. Made 600 pieces.

iii. Rein , first batch copper, 2507. 3000 pieces were made.

iv. 2512 Somdej Faa Pa. The green color piece only 200 pieces were made. The reason for its names "Faa Pa" or "Thunderbolt" is because the wearer of this amulets by the name of Mr. Sompong was stroked by thunderbolt but he was harmless even though his clothes were all burned up. This incident was reported in news and spread on to the entire village.

Some info on Somdej Wat Ket ChaiYoh

Phra somdej wat ket chaiyoh were made by Somdej Putarjarn Toh Promarangsri in 2409 (150+ years ago). From the record book of Phra yathip Kosa by Phra Dharm Thavorn (a novice monk that helped Somdej Toh in making this batch of somdej in 2409), 2 main form were made; 7 tier base and 6 tier base. All these para somdej were made and kept in base of big buddha statue of Wat ket chaiyoh in order to extend merit to his mother named "ket" and his grandfather "Chai". 

There are many pims created. But the more popular and widely recognised by Thai experts are only few:
i. 7 tiers popular mold
ii. 6 tiers full chest mold
iii. 6 tiers groove chest mold

Material used for phra somdej ket chaiyoh is similar to Somdej Wat rakhang. But more firm, compact and look like marble. This is the characteristic. and it has traces of sand paper rubbing at all 4 sides as well as the back of somdej. So, this differentiates Somdej Wat ket with Somdej WRK/BKP.

And in terms of price, Wat ket is still within reach for most highend collectors. In the range of SGD10k up to 35k. Whereas a piece of Somdej WRK, it costs anything between 2 mil THB to 20 mil THB.

Benjapakee- somdej wat ket

One the the popular pims of wat ket. Also one of the more affordable oe due to ts condition.

A nice piece cost about 500000-600000 thb. This piece hugely discounted. For common collector, it is not feasible to save up 500000 to get a somdej. So, for own wearing, this s god enough.

Benjapakee - Somdej wat ket chaiyoh pim kheng morn (4 certs-1,1,2,4)

Second piece of phra benjapakee.

Somdej Ket Chaiyoh made by somdej puttarjahn Toh of wat Rakhang. Similar sacred powder used as in WRK n BKP.

Entry level pim. Submitting for competition this May Bitech bangna. Condition considered good for a phra older than 150 years old.

2nd placing cert at sriracha samakom competition on 27 April n champion in yesterday chantaburi competition. 3 May.

2502 somdej bkp lp lampoo nur phong dam

Very rare somdej bangkhumprom by lp lampoo. Made in 2502 with old fragments of somdej toh powder left over in pagoda. High concentration of old powder made this batch highly desirable among somdej collectors. Both good for wearing or collection.

Nowadays even 2517 batch cost 12500 -15000 thb. N 2509 batch is easily 37000-250000 thb. This piece is still highly collectable considering its price n value.

Sharing a piece rare in market. Black powder, same piece in lampoo book n 1st placing cert. Very tip top condition pim yai.

Somdej wat rakhang nur loha pasom langkon

1st batch of metal somdej made in 245x by the wat rakhang abbot then. Condition pretty good. Form of prok poh with 2 tiers.

Unknown to many people but this batch was highly sought after. Main reason being the metal used to made this batch was actually takrut inscribed with yant by many of the top monks of that era. Wat rakhang distributed metal sheets to many temples of that era. And requested the monks to inscribe yant onto the metal sheet and go through chanting ceremony pf 3 months before returning them back to wat rakhang.

Then another consecration ceremony was carried out at wat rakhang to melt all takrut and make into the form of somdej. Some of the amulets that stick together or stick to the mould was actually hammered out. Thats why the name langkon. Kon is hammer in thai.

60 top monks are invited for chanting of this batch. Including lp derm of wat nong pho, lp suk of wat makhamtao, lp boon of wat klang bang keaw, lp boi and many more.

Lp boon somdej pim sam wao 2446

Sharing my second piece of LP boon somdej pim sam wao nur wahn.

This is an aged old somdej made by top monk of wat klang bang keaw.

Lp boon is the originator of making biagae n also special herbs mixture jintamani. He was one of the olden era monk (similar era as somdej toh of wat rakhang) that made amulets with jintamani. Herbs mixture that is believed to heal all kind of diseases.

Back then many ppl went to his temple n he cured them with boiled herbs mixture even those very sicked. Doctors came to learn from him too.

N many of u heard of biagae. Biagae of lp boon is a dream piece for many collectors. Pioneer in the olden days method of controlling mercury found from sea bed n sealed in special shell. Known to dispel black magic n danger..many reports from newspaper with minister escaping danger or asasination wearing his amulet. N choa sua of lp boon is a favourite of the rich besides lp ngern roop.

Top amulets from lp boon include the folowing.
1. Chuo sua
2. Somdej jintamani
3. Somdej nur wahn
4. Biagae

It is a dream piece even for seasoned collectors. Nowadays his chuo sua or somdej jintamani, cost more than 350k thb fatching price close to a nice wat ketchaiyoh somdej by somdej Toh.

Somdej bangkhumprom 2509 pim ket bua tom (2nd placing)

Sharing a piece of somdej bangkhumprom 2509.

I have shared many pieces of bkp 09. Pim B, pim C, pim orkrut, pim chedi meehoo, janloy.

What i shared now is pim ket bua tom. What make it so special is its contents. It is loaded with fragments of old bkp powder. Can visibly seen with naked eyes. More than any pim i have.

Nowaday, a 1cm2 broken pieces of bkp somdej cost anything from 46k -60k thb depending on condition. So, this piece is really good n nice for collection.

This piece won a 2nd placing in nakhom pathom police cadet competition last week.

2502 bang khumprom somdej lp lampoo

Sharing some old pieces of unworn somdej lampoo pim yai 2502. Very nice piece at unrepair condition. Mixed with broken fragments of old somdej bkp pieces when pagoda was broken into in 2500.

Good pieces to keep or wear.

Showing here are special lot with red yant behind. Chanted much longer , kept until 2519 before release to public.
